SHIP OF FOOLS Hunter and Plant lyrics

Robert Hunter! THE name on some of the best published musical scores of the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries. A real pioneer in folk-rock music lyrics and arrangements of cultural revolutionary ideals as scenes evolved via psychedelia's golden era front through our current decade. New Aquarian-consciousness is opening ever more beautiful petals as celebration continues and embraces Hunter's marvelous, mystical music.

The Moon and water signs (Moonchild, Scorpio, and Pisces) govern treasures beneath the ocean surface, including those valuables retreived by salvage, as in the film, 'Titanic.'
Among all Moonchild favorites, the
pearl, moonstone, mother-of-pearl, onyx, selenite; lucky: emerald, jade, various crystals and coral. Sea shells make ideal meditation gifts, especially the nautilus shell.
Metal: Silver, aluminum

"It is probable that a greater number of monuments of the skill and industry of man will in the course of ages be collected together in the bed of the oceans, than will exist at any one time on the surface of the continents."

-Sir Charles Lyell, Principles of Geology (1832)

Robert Hunter * Moonchildren Are

BORN UNDER A FABULOUS SIGN

Identity Change * Warlocks Metamorph Into The Grateful Dead
Alpine Family Reunion
December 8 Press Release

As the zodiacal band marks the pathway of the sun through the constellations, it results in the phenomena of the seasons. The ancient systems of measuring the year were based upon the equinoxes and the solstices.*

Observation of the Winter and Summer Solstice, as well as the Spring and Autumn Equinox reflect, and in many ways, represent the unique worldview of The Emperor.

The Emperor has allies and awareness allocated to a shaman, however his focus on clan karma is more powerful. His sense of place is steady, even though he appears to be in a constant state of flux. Gabriel is the Intelligence of the Moon, governing laws of the sea, the ebb and flow of tides, so this pattern, capable of transcending the duality, is one of the Moon's natural defenses.
Robert Hunter can establish a foundational relationship with various thought processses just as The Emperor can pick up on energy wherever he goes and carry it with him, sort of like a mystical pack rat. When enough patterns are acquired there are formed auric overlays, similar to the construction of a pearl, one of the Moon's signature gifts of the ocean. So, even when birth-death-resurrection themes are not contained in the lyric poem of the day, cyclic momentum is present via atmospheric conditions carried within thought and psyche vestments of power - like designs on the cape of The Emperor.

It is legend that Dali, when commissioned to paint the Tarot deck, labored for years and when the publisher asked for Dali's work, one card was completed - The Emperor. When asked where the other cards were, Dali replied, when The Emperor is perfected, the Tarot deck is complete. Hunter seems to favor this disposition when he works. Refer back to one of the most telling examples of this alignment between cosmic patterns and place:

On December 22, bi-polar opposite of Robert Hunter's birthday, sol peeks above the horizon behind a natural sandstone marker in New Mexico’s Chaco Canyon. For centuries on this day – the shortest day of the year – Indians visited the spot to perform rituals asking the sun to return after the long winter nights.
On his return from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Hunter promptly composed one of The Grateful Dead’s most simple and profound set of lyrics. Considered by many to be the Dead's signature symphonic poem, RC set words to what he dubbed ‘amorphous sounds’ played by the band, as they wafted into Rio Nito aeythers – the birthing strains of ‘Dark Star.’ Just as Trump IV implies adaptation along the lines of, 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do,' this Lunar Trump also enables people to take with them the very energy pattern of the power sites where they live... much in the way the shellfish, tortoise and beetle carry their homes with them to the four compass points where they sojourn.

Luna's children carry within their psyche an essential birth-death-rebirth cycle on wheels, with an accent on rebirth. Probably one of the reasons the founding fathers chose this sun sign for the newly formed union, and typically one of those recurrent power times of the year when mystic and magical groups meet to love, music, enjoy ritual * best things in life!

Identity Change

When the Warlocks first performed as The Grateful Dead, at Bill Graham's Fillmore Auditorium on December 10, 1965, the Moon was @ 21 Moonchild and just above the Ascendant (self-responsible individual) at 8:00 PM * Leo @ 1 degree ascended at the time the show began. The crucial change in identity promoted the ability of The Grateful Dead to observe the demands of the time... and the inevitable laws that govern all laws of nature. The audience recognized this potential and has always been inspired by the band's actualization of that thought about internal integrity.

The Door to (the Terrapin Station)

As the Warlocks closed the door on their first incarnation and opened the door leading into their new life as The Grateful Dead, they struck a resonant chord within us all, leading to the experience of a cosmic bond. The unbroken chain unites all people.
Mystery drama and educational plays were designed to teach people of the ancient world how to draw forth from themselves their own inner wisdom, to reach their own inner guru. Popular symbols chosen by the heirophant-storyteller for people outside the temple’s elite inner circle, were the two solstices represented as two cosmic doors. The sign Moonchild, or Cancer, rules the door. In dowsing/feng shui systems, the door is the primary chi entrance to a specific area and is symbolized by the tortoise, one of the cover art symbols for the Terrapin Station CD. Check out the banner at the official
Terrapin Station or The Phil Zone Inn & Annex.

Frederic Van Norstrand, writes about the Moon enthroned in her own sign: "According to the ancients there were two gates, two mighty doors: one leading into the House of Life, the other leading out of it. Man enters life through the Gate of Cancer, ancient symbol of the World-Mother and the emblem of birth. After wandering his appointed span among the hollows and the gloomy caverns of Hades he passes into Elysium, the above of the gods, through the celestial Gate of Capricorn by the side of which stands Saturn the Reaper, grim symbol of time and of age. Thus the two gates of the Underworld are respectively the womb, which leads into life, and the tomb leading out of it."

Family Reunion

Fans defy expectations with good behavior at legendary Alpine Valley reunion concert

August 3, 2002
Grateful for the Deadheads
By MARILYNN MARCHIONE
of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel staff

The crowd is mellow and the weather nearly perfect for the Terrapin Station concert at Alpine Valley on Saturday. The former members of the Grateful Dead drew fans from as far as Japan.

East Troy - The Night of the Living Dead was no horror show.

In fact, Saturday's Terrapin Station reunion concert of the living members of the legendary '60s band the Grateful Dead followed script like a fairy-tale.
There were no traffic jams around the Alpine Valley Music Amphitheatre, few arrests or complaints from area residents . . . and 35,000 happy, tie-dyed Deadheads.

Asian symbols and sacred creatures known to contain all elements of feminine and masculine – yin and yang - negotiating and initiating – by tradition adhere to the heading of the Phoenix, Dragon, Unicorn, and the Turtle.** Some Turtle/Tortoise journey is certainly on stage center as the Terrapin Station site is launching and The Grateful Dead reunion is a global headline we hoped for since December '95.

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release as of December 8th, 1995:

"The wheel is turning and you can't slow down
you can't let go and you can't hold on
you can't go back and you can't stand still..."

After four months of heartfelt consideration, the remaining members of the band met December 8th, and came to the conclusion that the "long strange trip" of the uniquely wonderful beast known as the "Grateful Dead" is over.

Although individually and in various combinations they will undoubtedly continue to make music, whatever the future holds will be something different in name and structure.

In making this announcement, band members were especially mindful of their partners in this adventure, the Dead Heads, urging them to remember that the music, the values and the spirit of this marvelous shared journey endure.

Business operations will continue at the band's long time Marin offices.

As always...
Thank you and stay in touch.

"The goal, as far as I'm concerned,
is for it to be fun."

Jerry Garcia

The Dead do Dylan * Phoenix article

* "The year always began with the vernal equinox, celebrated March 21 with rejoicing to mark the moment when the sun crossed the equator northward up the zodiacal arc. The summer solstice was celebrated when the sun reached its most northerly position and the day appointed was June 21. After that time the sun began to descend toward the equator, which it recrossed southbound at the autumnal equinox, September 21. The sun reached its most southerly position at the winter solstice, December 21.

Four of the signs of the zodiac have been permanently dedicated to the equinoxes and the solstices; and, while the signs no longer correspond with the ancient constellations to which they were assigned, and from which they secured their names, they are accepted by modern astronomers as a basis of calculation… The summer solstice is regarded as occurring in Cancer (the Crab), which the Egyptians called the ‘scarab’ – a beetle of the family Lamellicornes, the head of the insect kingdom, and sacred to the Egyptians as the symbol of Eternal Life. It is evident that the constellation of the Crab is represented by this peculiar creature because the sun, after passing through this house, proceeds to walk backwards, or descend the zodiacal arc. Cancer is the symbol of generation, for it is the house of the Moon, the great Mother of all things and the patroness of the life forces of Nature. Diana, the moon goddess of the Greeks, is called the Mother of the World. Concerning the worship of the feminine or maternal principle, Richard Payne Knight writes:

"By attracting or heaving the waters of the ocean, she naturally appeared to be the sovereign of humidity; and by seeming to operate so powerfully upon the constitutions of women, she equally appeared to be the patroness and regulatress of nutrition and passive generation: whence she is said to have received her nymphs, or subordinate personifications, from the ocean; and is often represented by the symbol of the sea crab, an animal that has the property of spontaneously detaching from its own body any limb that has been hurt or mutilated, and reproducing another in its place." (The Symbolical Language of Ancient Art and Mythology.) This water sign, being symbolic of the maternal principle of Nature, and recognized by the pagans as the origin of all life, was a natural and consistent domicile of the moon."

** Lohmann had already shown that turtles could "read" the intensity and inclination of Earth's magnetic field. The new study showed that they can read both at once, at levels like those found in the Atlantic. To measure the turtles' behavior in various magnetic conditions, Lohmann dressed them in tiny Lycra-and-nylon (we kid you not!) swimsuits, then tethered them to a levered gadget that recorded the animal's swimming direction.
