U2 formed in 1978 in Dublin, Ireland. Band members were teenagers who extracted the momentum of punk and heavy metal in the air, and added their own thunder and far sightedness to stir the European heart and soul. They put three successful albums into circulation during the early ‘80s: Boy 1980, October 1981, and War 1983.
The curtain went up for U2 when they released their debut album on October 20, 1980, under a celestial line up that resembled the sky the day John Lennon was born. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the album received generally positive reviews.

U2 set up their first album release [Boy] to coincide with the following influence during October 1980: Mars was in the sign Sagittarius @ 6 Sag 20' conjunct red alpha star Antares. Both the business planets were in conjunction by degree: Jupiter 28 Virgo 44' conjunct Saturn 3 Libra 37'. Neptune, the Utopia Urge was in the last decan of the Centaur at 20 Sag 34'.

Generally, the powerful forces of nature, in the form of the constellation Sagittarius, dominate the atmosphere at the time of early U2 releases. The Leo decanate of Sagittarius ruled by the Sun [last ten degrees of the sign Sagittarius] usually aims high and far as the consciousness expands and is enlightened.
The third decan of Sagittarius, named Sagitta, is said to represent the arrow with which Hercules slew the eagle [Aquila] that fed upon the liver of Prometheus. The word sagax of 'sagax ictus' is linked to the constellation Sagittarius, the Archer, from Latin sagire, to seek, 'seek to know'. The keywords for Sagittarius are 'I seek' and ‘I see’. The word, 'ictus' in medicine means sudden attack, blow, stroke, or seizure. In music 'ictus' is the instant when a beat occurs.

At the time of the release of October, their second album, on Oct 12, 1981, Mars was transiting [above] @ 25 Leo and conjunct Regulus, ‘the king maker’ alpha star. Both Mars and Regulus were sextile Jupiter and Pluto [growth, wealth, praise], and trine Neptune in Sagittarius @ 22 Sag 31’. However, Mars squared Uranus @ 28 Scorpio, indicating struggle, injuries, fighting spirit, and restlessness.

Venus was in Sagittarius @ 4 Sagittarius, conjunct Antares.

The band entered the studio in July 1981 to record October, but the album's recording sessions were complicated [Mars square Uranus carries problems with covert or overt enemy list] when the briefcase containing Bono's lyrics was stolen by fans after a show in Portland, Oregon. The band already booked studio time through the end of August and thus had to continue recording in spite of this, even improvising lyrics on some songs. Bono said of the recording process of October, "I remember the pressure it was made under, I remember writing lyrics on the microphone, and at £50 an hour, that's quite a pressure."

War is their third studio album, released on 28 February 1983. The album has come to be regarded as U2's first overtly political album, in part because of songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year's Day", as well as the title, which stems from the band's perception of the world at the time [Antares prominent on this day]; Bono stated that "war seemed to be the motif for 1982."

When War was released in 1983, Jupiter was @ 9 Sag 49’ conjunct Uranus 9 Sag 02', conjunct the alpha star Antares, symbolized by a pendent Ear Jewel associated with Indra [Hindu], and in Egypt, the symbol of Isis in the pyramid ceremonials, and Selket heralding the sunrise through her temples at the autumnal equinox about 3700-3500 B.C . Neptune was sojourning Sagittarius at 28 Sag 58’ in the Leo [Third] Decan of Sagittarius, Sagitta.

The most powerful point in heaven on most of the dates mentioned above is found in Sagitta the Centaur's Arrow. Many graces flow from the benefit of fixed star Acumen in the star group, like blessings that fall from heaven to earth. The legacy of Sagitta is generally referred to as ‘a positive disposition’ [of the star Acumen], between 27 Sag and 28 Sag 49’ anciently interpreted as the ritual of opening the windbox, and inner reality awareness. When well aspected, Acumen signifies very sharp minds [the artists and their audience] and a perception well above average, as though perhaps 'blind' to what we see and take for granted, they see what we do not, at levels where eyesight does not reach. Not for nothing has the word, 'Acumen' come down to us as a term for a sharp mind.

Bono spoke to an audience of 14,000 attendees who gathered to honor 5 special women selected to receive Minerva Awards this year. His comments included a personal love note from across the pond:

U2's Bono knighted by Queen ambassador
U2 singer Bono was presented with an honorary knighthood by representatives of the Queen of England on Thursday morning (March 29th) in Dublin. According to a post at the band's web site, Bono was knighted in recognition of his services to the music industry and for his humanitarian work. The vocalist said after receiving the award, "What a great year for an Irishman to receive an award from Great Britain...I couldn't be more proud. I would like to thank Her Majesty's Ambassador for pinning this award on me in my home town, and the band for not bursting my balloon."

Bono was joined at the ceremony by family, friends and bandmates, while a letter of congratulations from British Prime Minister Tony Blair was also read during the event.

The Queen's Ambassador said that the honorary knighthood was in recognition of "Bono's extraordinary and inspirational campaigning to fight global poverty and focus international attention on the plight of Africa; the AIDS pandemic; and the third world debt crisis."

Because the term "Sir" can be used only by British-born knights, the Irish singer will not be called "Sir Bono." He joked to reporters after the ceremony, "You can call me pretty much anything you want, except 'sir.' You can call me lord of lords or a demi-god."

The demi-god and his merely human bandmates are reportedly at work on a new album.

Late one night, during the forum I New York City, a dozen officials from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Episcopal Church, MTV and DATA (Debt, Aid, Trade for Africa) gathered for a strategy session in the back room of a Manhattan restaurant. The group was brainstorming on ways to convince Americans that saving Africa from financial ruin is in America’s best interest. As is frequently the case with debate on Africa, the discussion eventually sagged inotto weary frustration. By midnight, the air had leaked out of the room and, with it, any glimmer of productivity.

Then U2’s singer Bono strolled in.
Wearing a black leather jacket, his trademark blue-tinted shades and a roguish smile, he glided around the table, shaking hands and kissing cheeks. Like Superman turning into Clark Kent, the earnest political operative took over. Before the shy types could mumble about a brief previous encounter, he set them at ease, reciting their names and the circumstances of their last meeting: “Of course! The forum in Boston!” With his glad-handing complete, Bono—founder, spokesman and chief benefactor of DATA, a nonprofit, debt-relief advocacy group—sat down at the edge of the table and, at 1:00 a.m., recounted the details of his early-morning session with 30 G.O.P Congressmen. “I am not willing to give up on the Republicans,” he said of his efforts to convert the Congressmen on debt relief and increased aid to Africa. “They’re tough, but they’re willing to listen.”

I love to talk about Africa. It can be hard to get away... Each time it makes me think we need to do much more to get the message across that this is not a "cause," this pandemic that we and so many others are working on. 5,500 Africans dying a day of AIDS, a preventable, treatable disease is not a cause. 5,500 Africans dying each day is an emergency.

Enter Product (RED). (RED) is a new idea we're launching to work alongside the growing ONE Campaign to Make Poverty History.     Millionaire’s Coffee   
          &  Hot Bailey’s Soufflés   

 

Hot Bailey’s Soufflés

12 slices sponge
12 TBS Bailey’s
3 oz/90 ml cream
2 egg yolks
3 egg whites
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 oz/15g castor sugar
1/4 stick butter

Soak the cake slices in the Bailey’s. Preheat the oven to gas mark 6/200C or 400F.
Combine the sweetened cream with the egg yolks. In another bowl, whisk egg whites to a soft peak. Add lemon juice and half the sugar and whisk to the ribbon stage. Fold this meringue mixture into the cream. Grease six ramekin dishes with butter and coat them in the remaining sugar. Pour half the mixture into the dishes and then add the well-soaked sponges. Pour in more mixture. Bake 8 min or until golden on top and serve piping hot with fresh cream.

 

Millionaire’s Coffee

Ingredients:

1/2 shot Bailey’s Irish cream
1/2 shot Kahlua
1/2 shot Frangelico
6 oz Coffee

Mixing instructions:

Place Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico and Kahlua in Irish coffee mug and add coffee. Top with whip cream and allspice (cinnamon and nutmeg optional).

10/26/2006 Churches launch service based on U2's music
A communion service based on the music of U2 has become the latest trend for a number of Episcopal churches across the U.S.

The U2Charist--named after the band and the Eucharist communion--weaves songs by the Irish rockers into a church service along with corresponding slides.
Reported by USA Today, the special service was the idea of the Reverend Paige Blair, an Episcopal priest in York Harbor, Maine, who held the first U2Charist at her church on July 31, 2005. [source: YAHOO Music]
