Tripple Goddess
After WWII the archetypes slowly turned to prepare the dawn of the Age of Aquarius, the Era of the Child, and the ancient goddess emerged in her positive and negative forms. The Moon as the Greek triple Goddess is symbolized as: Artemis - Waxing Moon, Selene - the Full Moon and Hecate - the Waning Moon. In the maiden, mother, crone aspects of the Goddess, Selene is the mother Goddess, Artemis the maiden and Hecate the Crone.
A biga of oxen was also driven by Hecate, the chthonic aspect of the triple goddess in complement with the "horned" or crescent-crowned Diana and Luna. The three-form Hecate (trimorphos ) was identified by Servius with Luna, Diana, and Proserpina. According to the Archaic Greek poet Hesiod, Hecate originally had power over the heavens, land, and sea, not as in the later tradition heaven, earth, and underworld.
Juno, the Roman sky goddess, and Diana were invoked as childbirth goddesses with the epithet Lucina, as their cultural roles gradually transformed with the introduction of the Olympian warrior pantheon.
The White Goddess, by Robert Graves was required reading for those who studied the stages of the return of the goddess during the last part of the twentieth century.
